Ohio Right to Life Statement on Supreme Court's Ruling on June v. Russo

COLUMBUS, Ohio-- Today, the United States Supreme Court issued its decision regarding June Medical Services v. Russo. The case involved a Louisiana law which required abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion facility.
The following statement may be attributed to Mike Gonidakis, President of Ohio Right to Life:

“This ruling fails to close dangerous loopholes that leave women at the mercy of abortionists during a medical emergency. Every life is intrinsically valuable and must be protected: both innocent unborn babies and their mothers. Today the court failed to do just that."

“Since pro-abortion activists will no doubt praise the Supreme Court’s ruling, we must remember that this decision only serves to reveal the abortion industry’s true motives. For them, it has never been about women; it has always been about protecting abortion. How many more vulnerable women and innocent children must be put in harm’s way for the sake of ‘choice’?”

“As we move forward the urgency of our mission to protect our society’s most vulnerable is clearer than ever. The lives of women and their innocent babies literally hang in the balance. With the Supreme Court’s ruling today one thing has become abundantly clear: to further protect life, it is imperative that we vote our pro-life values in November. We must never stop working to instill a culture of life in our nation and re-electing President Trump and other strong pro-life leaders is our best path forward. With compassion and conviction we will continue to work towards the day when no woman feels like she must choose between herself and her child and where every life, from conception to natural death, is unequivocally protected under law.”

Founded in 1967, Ohio Right to Life, with more than 40 chapters and local affiliates, is Ohio's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement in Ohio, ORTL works through legislation and education to promote and defend innocent human life from conception to natural death.

    Hi, Ed! Thanks for replying.

I don’t understand much of the content your post, specifically how they relate to my query about the possibility of direct election of Supreme Court justices. Police killing suspects? Well, um…I “back the blue” as I often write on Twitter, so I don’t agree with those who think cops kill people indiscriminately. Voting congresspersons out of office? Yep, I agree there.

However, I would trust that Louisiana pro-lifers advanced the law that the Supreme Court struck down because they thought it would not only chip away at the monolith of abortion law, but also have a teaching value (that abortionists must abide by the same regulations that genuine doctors must abide by in any surgical procedure). Here in Ohio, we, too, may have passed “weak” laws because all legislators are hamstrung by a judicial system that thinks abortion must be protected at all costs.

So…on the question of direct election of Supreme Court justices, why not? Originally, citizens could not vote for US senators, but that was changed by a constitutional amendment so that now we can vote to keep pro-life Senator Portman or try to kick out violently pro-abortion Sherrod Brown.

I would love to do whatever I can to kick out the five anti-life justices on the Court now and replace them with pro-life ones. I include Roberts with those five anti-life judges because, contrary to what you claim (that it “cannot be true”), I don’t think he is pro-life; his decisions prove that.

I’ll take pro-life Justice Clarence Thomas, who has suggested that he would overturn Roe v. Wade, over anti-life (and traitor) John Roberts any day.

This blog may not be the best venue for discussing this question further, so, if there is a better venue, then I hope someone in Ohio RTL will tell me. Otherwise, my question is still open.

Jeff, that can not be true. He is as pro-life as you and me. The problem is not the death of the innocent. Even cops kill the innocent (before trial). The problem is that judges are not supposed to have opinions about politics, but only about law. The Louisiana statute was as weak as Hughie Long. Ohio must bring a better statute forward, and we need to start aborting congresspersons (electorally) who hate their mommas and their own lives!

Justice John Roberts is a traitor to the pro-life movement.

All the more reason to vote for pro-life President Trump and replace the justices on the Supreme Court who don’t respect the first civil right, the right to life, with pro-life justices.
