Abortion in Ohio: Fast Facts

Abortion is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures in the United States. [1]

Since 1973, more than 60 million unborn children have lost their lives to abortion. [2]

Abortions in Ohio represent 2.5% of all abortions in the United States. [3]

The abortion rate for 2015 was around 188 abortions per 1,000 live births. [4]

So-called "hard cases" of rape and incest account for less than 1.5% of abortions, according to a 2015 study. [5]

The American Medical Association supports legislation banning partial-birth abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger. [6]

There is a 150% increase in rates of breast cancer for girls under 18 who abort at 8 weeks gestation or greater. [7]

68% of Americans favor some or total restrictions on abortions. [8]

49% of Americans believe abortion is morally wrong. [9]

More than two-thirds of Americans believe abortion should be illegal after the first trimester. [10]
